Blizzard making Authenticators mandatory?

I read this same comment somewhere else, and another person replied with something along "Dude, you pay $15/mo + w/e you paid for the 3 boxes, is $6.50 really gonna break your bank?"

He makes a good point - go look at your account history, and add up all the charges. $6.50 will seem like a drop in the bucket. :-p

Exactly. One of my co-workers got hit last week. He did not have an authenticator. He got control back of his account the next day but it took another 5 days to get all his gear back and they only gave him some of his Emblems & gold (2500g per 80) back.

When I think about all the time I spend on this game and my ridiculous 7 level 80's, that mere $6.50 is nothing for an extra layer of protection.

[Edit]
Having said that, there's plenty and plenty of people for who view the whole account "hacked" thing as Blizzard's fault. Which it is not, as most account hacks are a result of the player's computer becoming infected by visiting a bad website. Blizzard can't really control what websites you go on, whether or not you have Antivirus/Antispyware and keep it up to date.

But most people don't feel that way and balk at the idea of having to spend an additional amount of money (even though it's an insanely small one-time amount) for protecting themselves.

I can only imagine each hacked account costs blizzard many times more than 6 bucks, so they would gladly give them out in exchange for never having to deal with another restore. At one of my previous jobs, every phone call that came into a call center (average of ~11 min long) cost the company something like 14 dollars (between pay of the person answering, benefits, building costs, managers, etc). I am certain it takes a lot longer than 11 minutes of someones time to restore an account, so my guess is that they will do it and eat the cost of them.
