Group TBD (Weekend Shift) Forming Up
Group TBD (Weekend Shift) Forming Up
It's on the calendar. I did a mass invite to everyone level 88 and up.
I intend for this raid to pursue heroic mode progression. I intend to have a fixed roster of 10 main raiders which I will supplement with 2-3 alts from the other raid although I may be open to having some fixed rotating spots (e.g., suppose Alan and Dustin expect to have only 60% attendance; I would combine the two of them into a single main raider spot and have them rotate weekly). This will more or less resemble the arrangement that G2 and G4 had in tier 13 = no attendance drama.
Note that this raid is the weekend graveyard shift -- Fridays and Saturdays, 9:30 PM to 12:00 AM. I'd like the guild to be in the habit of seeing people raid on this night. If you like to go out on the weekends, I'm pretty sure you can make it back home in time for a 9:30 PM Pacific time raid. If you're concerned about staying up until midnight, the only thing you'll probably miss is the early morning mass. The two primary reasons for this are to accommodate Dustin and Alan (who are fun to raid with) and because I really hated having raid nights be as far apart as possible -- G4 would raid on Wednesday night, then forget we had a second raid on Monday night five days later >_<.
For those concerned about the raid night and/or heroic modes, I expect to set up a second raid soon that will pursue normal mode raiding. I also may or may not end up being in charge of a third raid to pursue heroic modes (total 20 main roster spots for heroic raiding with alt-backfill = most elegant solution I've seen).

Since I managed to hit 90, I intend to be fully prepared for the raid. Raiders should strive to hit iLvl 463. Why 463? -- This is the iLvl requirement for LFR. If you're geared enough to queue for LFR, you should be geared enough to do normal mode MV10.
For encounter mechanics, I am basing my strategy off the Icy Veins writeups. Do you need to know absolutely everything about the fights? -- No. You do need to have a basic understanding of what you have to do for your role during the fight -- if you show up to the raid absolutely clueless, then I'm going to insist that you wait until we launch the non-heroic raiding group and go with them.

Memorizing all six bosses and keeping the tactics straight in your head is probably asking too much. Keeping three bosses worth of tactics in your head is reasonable since we're raiding over the course of two nights (Stone Guard, Feng, Gara'jal on Friday; Spirit Kings, Elegon, Emperor on Saturday).

Bleh. This 11:30pm to 2am for me. Probably not. I need to start an early group, like, Sunday mornings
Re: Group 1 (Graveyard Shift) Forming Up
I'm intentionally leaving Sunday and Monday open so that another raid can use it -- in my head, I'm assuming this would be Jim's normal mode raid. However, if Jim wants to dip back into heroics or absolutely doesn't want to be in charge of a raiding group, Sunday and Monday is a nice time slot for a raid.
In the grand scheme of things, I would prefer for the raid to have at least a one day gap so I have more time to analyze combat logs (e.g., Wednesday + Friday). The large five day gap of Wednesday + Monday for group 4 resulted in a lot of cancelled Mondays.

Ill see what I can do with my hunter, Friday and Saturday nights are OK for me to stay up late at night so, Ill see if i can bring him.
Re: Group TBD (Weekend Shift) Forming Up
After some discussion, the weekend raid will no longer be super late. I have moved it to the standard raiding time of 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM Pacific. Since Jeff's group is starting up this week, we'll find out what I'm short and recruit accordingly.

Nice, those times were SUPER LATE on the east coast. I'll chat with Jeff and Sxy on the group 2 sub idea - and if that's not optimal I'll see what you need regarding recruitment and sub line up. All things being equal, I'd rather raid on the weekends. With 2 kids I'm never out late anymore on Friday/Saturday nights. No late night music anymore, but I am glad I got to see you all way back when when we played in OB in San Diego - was cool to catch HP in RL before I moved 3k miles away
