Discord / Mumble

Post by draven » April 19th, 2011, 1:30 pm

update: the mumble server is currently offline so we only use discord these days

we use discord or mumble for voice communication. the service used is based on the preference of the group and status of the mumble server. invites to our discord community are provided at raid time. information about installing mumble and connecting to the server is below, however the mumble server is not always available.

download mumble here: https://www.mumble.info/downloads/
get the appropriate stable version for your operating system.

the installation is pretty simple. all of the defaults should be fine but there are a few things to note:
  • you only need to install the mumble client, not the server
  • you don't need to send usage statistics if you don't want to
  • if it asks you for a certificate you can just have it create one automatically
  • you should probably set a push to talk key:
    configure -> settings -> audio input -> transmission / transmit -> push to talk
    configure -> settings -> shortcuts -> add
the mumble server information is in the guild info tab. when you connect for the first time you can click yes when it asks about the certificate, that is just a warning about the self-signed certificate.

if you have any questions or issues please let me know.

for those of you wondering why mumble isn't working as of 1/15/2012 11:36:47 gmt, you can read why here:
http://blog.mumble.info/important-updat ... le-1-2-3a/

this may or may not only affect windows 7. you will need to uninstall your current version and install the latest version, currently 1.2.3a. your settings should be saved.
